Made by splitting and bundling coconut spathes (
taume) and tying the bundle with thin strips of pandanus leaf (
laufala). Koch (1961) also describes a method in which the bundle is wrapped with
kaka. Once lit at the end, it continues to smoulder for a long time and is used to light
lama during night fishing for flying fish.
