fakasani
v. 1. tie two mature coconuts together using fibers pulled from their husks
n. 2. a pair of mature coconuts tied together in this way
Two mature coconuts are partially husked, and fibers are pulled from the mesocarp and tied together. The pair is then hung from a house or other structure and left to dry for about one to three years. As they dry, the moisture inside is lost and the solid endosperm turns reddish brown, becoming copra (takataka 'kula). See also: fakahani.
